What God?

Lots of people believe in god, and then later down the road they change their mind for different reasons. I was thinking that really what is happening is that their “idea” of what god was, or is, has not lined up with their experience.

It would make more sense to just adjust your concept of god, but many times once that image as been etched into our minds, there is no changing it.

When is the truth …… not the truth?

Every believer knows the “love” chapter in the bible. (Its 1st Corinthians 13 for the rest of you). What struck me this week was these two back-to-back verses found right in the middle of this biblical definition of love.

verse 5 and 6: (Love) does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth.

So the interesting thing about these verses that there is no record of wrongs, and at the same time a rejoicing in the truth!?! How does that work?

Wouldn’t it seem that if someone has wronged you (insert your own situation) that that event actually took place? And that the truth is that it did happen?

Well. Let those who have eyes to hear, hear this…. Jesus did not come to save us from our physical shortcommings/sins, but from our spiritual sin. What is our spiritual sin spoken of in Romans where it is written, “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”? (Read Rom. 3:23 and 5:12, notice the pasted tense in both verses, even when referencing Adam in verse 5:12)

There are many verses that speak of this, but I will give you the opportunity of the Barrean Path.

All things are permissable for us, but not all things are benificial. Do not judge according to the flesh, for we walk by faith and not by sight! The sins of our beast nature will be cast as far as the east is from the west and will not be remembered when time shall be no more. (Rev. 10:6)

Baptism:

So let us assume that my understanding of baptism is correct, and that is, that the symbol of baptism points to the ultimate understanding of a soul being put into a body.

Our bodies being made of mostly water.

Our souls have been put to death (the first death), by being put into a body of water, (also large groups of people are reffered to as “seas” in the bible) and will be raised to life with Christ upon the overcoming of this world. (I know this is a lot to digest, but let’s assume this is correct)

What the Lord was showing me today was this….

If we live a life that is not transparent (not necesarily needing to share your sins with other people, but speaking them outloud to the Lord) then we in a sense live a double minded life. We have our sub concious mind knowing what our sins are, and our concious mind not wanting to come face to face with that reality.

This is tied to baptism because the flesh nature, which is what needs to be killed by our baptism experiance, avoids death by avoiding the truth of our actions and making it impossible for us to come to the light.

“Do the truth, and you shall come to the light” John 3:19-21

As we come to grips with the truth of our actions and thoughts that are contrary to God, then, and only then, can they be dealt with by God and we can then come to the light.

The old man must die daily, and the new man must emerge like a city on a hill. This is the process of baptism. This is the purpose of life.

Child of God #2 – What is at stake?

I would like to unfold this concept over the course of multiple posts. Many church goers do not understand that one of the fundamental axioms of the church is that not everyone is a child of God. I would venture to say that most Christians think the contrary, that is, that everyone is a child of God, but they may not be able to articulate exactly what that means. It may be more of a general assumption, and they do not understand how that violates church orthodoxy.

So what really is at stake with this discussion?

The belief that we are all children of God violates the christian doctrine of original sin and total depravity. To say we are children of God is to say that there is a part of us, that is connected to God, even if we have not been “born again”, and that part of us, if it is a part of God, must be good and there fore the doctrine of total depravity and global sonship/daughtership can not be held simultaneously.

So as you can see this one “domino” can and will send many others falling after it. That of course is no reason to discredit it, but of course many understandings that we currently hold will need to be re-worked in order to fit this new “wine skin” of understanding.

Please know that this topic is like a mental door that once opened can not be closed, and once closed can not be reopened.

Is Everyone a Child of God?

I just got done hearing someone teach that “not everyone is a child of God” this was on the radio and from a very prominant Calvary Chaple pastor.

I have struggled with this question for a while and have come to a different conclusion. The importance of this thought is quite important to our understanding of some the basic elements of the Christian faith.

Please feel free to post your opinions and verses as I will continue with follow-up posts anylyzing in more detail the far reaching consequences of this seemingly simple question.

A Sad Day In Hell

While stuck in traffic for 5 hours in LA. I was channel surfing and found the Calvery Chaple radio station. And wouldn’t you know it, they were doing a fund raiser. Now you may not believe this but the announcer, as he was talking about raising money, says to the listening audience….

“Don’t just be listeners (pause) but doers of Gods word!”

He then went on to discribe the different ways people could give money to the radio station. How sick is that? Taking verses out of the bible, out of context and using them to get people to fund your organization. All in the name of God.
